Keep Your Tennis Game Going Throughout the Winter!

Winter TennisHope everyone had a nice break and a wonderful holiday season!

It’s time to register for the winter session of after school clinics at Jetton Park.  This is actually a nice time of year to either continue training or for beginners to get started, because we have much smaller class sizes with the cooler temperatures and winter sports pulling many of our regular players off the courts for a couple of months.  To get registered, please email Julie Mudge.  Specific class times and descriptions can be found on the registration form below.  For sessions that have already begun, we are happy to prorate.

Summer camps are coming to a close and it’s time to think about after school clinics! We are so looking forward to the cooler temperatures and gearing up for Fall tennis!! Whether your child has never held a racquet, or they are an advanced high school/tournament player, we have the clinic for you!  After school clinics are held at Jetton Park in Cornelius.  Beginner classes are 45 min. and int/adv clinics are 90 min.-3 hours.  Sign ups are done in 4 week sessions or we offer a discounted rate for registering for the full Fall season (Sept-Dec.)  Clinics are held Mon-Thur, and our rates are based on kids attending an average of 2-3 times per week.  However, we encourage as much participation as possible to see optimum progress.  We certainly understand that kids have other activities, heavy homework days, rain days, etc. so we are flexible with whichever days work for your family’s schedule.  To get registered, please email with your child’s name and class time.  Then fill out the fall registration form

and mail it in along with your payment.  Please don’t hesitate to call or email with any questions that you may have.  Thanks for your interest in our program and we look forward to a great fall season!

LNTA juniors active in winter season

Our LNTA athletes covered a lot of ground in the winter and early spring, playing in every level tournament from state L5’s to nationals!  At all levels, they expanded their games, learned how to win and lose, and gained some great life experiences.  Some stayed local, competing in school and USTA matches.  Others traveled throughout the state and south, competing in Raleigh, Louisville, Knoxville, Baton Rouge, Rome (GA), Charleston, Augusta,  Winston-Salem, and more!  Everyone came back with stories, and we know you have pictures.  If you’d like to share them, please send them to us.  We’d love to share the stories and pictures.  The picture above was taken on day two of the Winter Southern Closed Championships, December 2012.  Olivia and Hannah were leaving to warm-up for early matches, hoping to cross paths with Ryan in prep for the tough competition ahead.  Although the matches were indoor, a snowstorm swept through Louisville for the second year in a row during this tournament, causing issues with road conditions and concerns about match-time delays.  In the end, it all worked out, and the players enjoyed the first big snowday of the year!

NC Junior Spring State Closed Championships

Courtney Sportsmanship AwardsADVANCE, NC — Several Lake Norman Tennis Academy (LNTA) athletes competed well at this year’s NC Level 1 Championships near Winston-Salem as they prepared for the Tar Heel Qualifier in May.  This included six players who made it deep into the singles tournament and five who played in a doubles quarterfinal or better.  Of particular note, Ryan was a finalist in 12 doubles,  Courtney was a finalist in the main draw of 16 singles, and Courtney won the Sportsmanship award (pictured right).  Anderson made it to the semifinals of the main draw in 10 singles.  Olivia played in the finals of 14 singles consolation.  Hannah (16 singles), Morgan (12 singles), and Ryan (12 singles) made it to the quarterfinals of their consolation draws.

Winter tennis court hours of operation

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation will be adjusting the hours of operation at the tennis facilities during the winter months.  Starting December 10 and going through February 26, the courts will be open sunrise until 9:00 pm.  As the temperatures continue to get colder, there is not a need to keep the facilities open as late.  This is a cost saving measure as well as a safety issue.  Signs will be made and posted at the facilities this week to inform users of the new policy.
