Summer 2016 Tennis Programs

Tennis SSC 2015Summer is around the corner and it’s time to start thinking about summer tennis camps!!

Beginner Camps

Our beginner programs are coordinated through Cornelius PARC and sign-ups are done online.  Camps are held at North Meck Park and run June 13th through Aug. 5th, except for the week of July 4th, Monday-Friday from 9:00 am-12:00 pm.  These are for beginner players ages 6-14, and are typically large groups of 30-40 players.  We cover the rules of tennis, parts of the court and equipment, match scoring, and basic beginner strokes, using fun drills, games, and contests!

Beginner Clinics

These Quickstart Beginner sessions are for ages 5-8. Clinics are held at Bailey Road Park, Monday-Thursday from 8:00-8:45 am and run the same weeks as our Beginner Camps shown above.

Beyond Beginner Camps

For our advanced beginner and up players, summer camps are held at Jetton Park starting the week of June 13th and are available every week through Aug. 12th, except for the week of July 4th.

Hours are 9:00 am-12:00 pm ($150) or 9:00 am-2:00 pm ($185) with a break for lunch, then games/match play for the longer camps. Both the 3-hour and 5-hour camps are held Monday-Thursday, with Fridays being make-up days in case of rain. Download the schedule/registration form.

We’ll have a discounted rate if you want to sign up for the whole summer, then come whatever days each week that you’d like or are available for…. This discounted “all-summer rate” is $710 for 9:00 am-12:00 pm and $885 for 9:00 am-2:00 pm. So basically, if you are planning to come more than 4 weeks, the summer rate is the best deal. It’s also more flexible, because you can come any days that work for your schedule all summer long!

You can email Julie Mudge any time to let us know what weeks you’d like to sign up for or if you have any other questions.

Looking forward to a great summer on the courts!

Keep Your Tennis Game Going Throughout the Winter!

Winter TennisHope everyone had a nice break and a wonderful holiday season!

It’s time to register for the winter session of after school clinics at Jetton Park.  This is actually a nice time of year to either continue training or for beginners to get started, because we have much smaller class sizes with the cooler temperatures and winter sports pulling many of our regular players off the courts for a couple of months.  To get registered, please email Julie Mudge.  Specific class times and descriptions can be found on the registration form below.  For sessions that have already begun, we are happy to prorate.

LNTA juniors active in winter season

Our LNTA athletes covered a lot of ground in the winter and early spring, playing in every level tournament from state L5’s to nationals!  At all levels, they expanded their games, learned how to win and lose, and gained some great life experiences.  Some stayed local, competing in school and USTA matches.  Others traveled throughout the state and south, competing in Raleigh, Louisville, Knoxville, Baton Rouge, Rome (GA), Charleston, Augusta,  Winston-Salem, and more!  Everyone came back with stories, and we know you have pictures.  If you’d like to share them, please send them to us.  We’d love to share the stories and pictures.  The picture above was taken on day two of the Winter Southern Closed Championships, December 2012.  Olivia and Hannah were leaving to warm-up for early matches, hoping to cross paths with Ryan in prep for the tough competition ahead.  Although the matches were indoor, a snowstorm swept through Louisville for the second year in a row during this tournament, causing issues with road conditions and concerns about match-time delays.  In the end, it all worked out, and the players enjoyed the first big snowday of the year!

NC Junior Spring State Closed Championships

Courtney Sportsmanship AwardsADVANCE, NC — Several Lake Norman Tennis Academy (LNTA) athletes competed well at this year’s NC Level 1 Championships near Winston-Salem as they prepared for the Tar Heel Qualifier in May.  This included six players who made it deep into the singles tournament and five who played in a doubles quarterfinal or better.  Of particular note, Ryan was a finalist in 12 doubles,  Courtney was a finalist in the main draw of 16 singles, and Courtney won the Sportsmanship award (pictured right).  Anderson made it to the semifinals of the main draw in 10 singles.  Olivia played in the finals of 14 singles consolation.  Hannah (16 singles), Morgan (12 singles), and Ryan (12 singles) made it to the quarterfinals of their consolation draws.

Winter tennis session

It’s time to start thinking about the Winter Tennis Session.  What a fantastic fall we have had.  We are hoping for our luck to hold and for this great training weather to continue as much as possible.  Click here for the winter session registration form, which includes the months of January and February.  As always, please let us know your plans for the next couple of months, so we can plan accordingly.  Hope you are all enjoying the break and having a wonderful holiday season!
